Since the 1960's Therapeutic Horsemanship in the United States has grown to serve people who face physical, developmental and emotional challenges.
Lisa May holds a Masters Degree in Social Work. As a Licensed Clinical Social Work supervisor for a psychiatric rehabilitation program, Lisa developed therapeutic horsemanship programs especially for people with challenges. She has presented at regional and national conferences addressing horsemanship for women trauma survivors and adults with mental illness. Lisa is a certified instructor with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.
The benefits of Therapeutic Horsemanship include increased confidence, independence, and achievement; socialization and mentoring; bonding with an animal; and development of a sense of safety and trust.
