Since
the 1960's Therapeutic Horsemanship in the United States has grown to serve
people who face physical, developmental and emotional challenges.
Lisa
May holds a Masters Degree in Social Work. As a Licensed Clinical Social Work
supervisor for a psychiatric rehabilitation program, Lisa developed therapeutic
horsemanship programs especially for people with challenges. She has presented
at regional and national conferences addressing horsemanship for women trauma
survivors and adults with mental illness. Lisa is a certified instructor with
the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.
The
benefits of Therapeutic Horsemanship include increased confidence, independence,
and achievement; socialization and mentoring; bonding with an animal; and
development of a sense of safety and trust.
